Miguel Fernandez has been named as president of Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM) EMEA. The appointment follows the promotion of Patrick Zammit to global president for Avnet Technology Solutions. Fernandez takes on his new role immediately.
For the past 12 years Fernandez has served president of Silica, an Avnet company. He will be responsible for the entire components and embedded activities of the Electronics Marketing group in the region and report directly to Gerry Fay, president of Avnet EM Global.
“Miguel is the right candidate for this exciting and challenging role,” said Gerry Fay, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Global. “As president of Silica he has been part of the EMEA executive team for the last 12 years and is well respected by the team and our manufacturing partners.” Fay continued: “Continuity and constant progress have been EM EMEA’s critical success factors and Miguel has been one of the main drivers behind the team’s success.”
Fernandez started his professional career in Spain in the early 80s by founding his own distribution company. He sold the company to the Sonepar Electronics Group (SEI) and served as executive vice president of that organization. When Avnet acquired SEI in 1999, Fernandez assumed the position of CIO and chief of staff. In 2002, after the creation of Silica, he took responsibility for the then very new semiconductor distributor. In the last 12 years, together with his team, he managed to establish Silica among the top distributors in Europe, with revenues in excess of 1 Billion Euro in FY14.
Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA reported annual turnover of 3.75bn Euro for fiscal year 2014, ending June 28, 2014. The region covers the entire European, Middle East and African markets with a model of separately operating business units which specialise in certain areas of the value added components (semiconductors, IP&E,) and the embedded market.
