Arrow Electronics is getting into the retail business. It has introduced a retail systems solutions portfolio to meet the needs of original equipment manufacturers and system integrators who are targeting the retail automation sector. Arrow will run the retail business within its OEM computing solutions business, the integration arm of Arrow that provides a range of services for embedded components including kitting, sub-assembly and appliance and system builds.

The retail systems portfolio combines hardware and software from leading vendors. Typical solutions supported will include interactive digital signage that can enable highly targeted marketing both to existing and potential customers; real-time stock management; and customer management and engagement based on multiple, disparate databases.

Amir Mobayen, VP and general manager, Arrow OEM computing solutions EMEA, commented: “Modern retailers are facing many challenges – often due to technology advances – but these are matched and surpassed in many cases by the opportunities that the use of expertly integrated emerging technology can bring. Customers expect an omnichannel experience, browsing, purchasing and, occasionally, returning merchandise online, in-store and via mail. Managing and supporting these interactions, and enhancing them through the use of loyalty schemes and targeted promotions, requires sophisticated approaches and carefully integrated technical solutions.”

Mobayen continued: “Arrow closely monitors market developments we’re seeing and that customers and suppliers are experiencing. New technologies promise to deliver a richer, more flexible experience for shoppers and help enlightened retailers to navigate and reap the benefits of a more fluid, challenging environment. By combining retail solutions expertise with world-class integration and manufacturing capabilities, Arrow is providing OEMs and system integrators with a proven route to capitalize on these great opportunities.”

Arrow’s embedded services include full design engineering, supply-chain management, global logistics and post-manufacturing services for customized embedded and standalone devices and hardware appliances, including displays, industrial computing platforms, storage and software solutions, standard and custom board designs and system solutions.

In addition, Arrow operates seven integration facilities around the world (China, Brazil, Hungary, India, Israel, Mexico and the United States) for design and manufacturing services ranging from system integration and hardware solution design to custom packaging and diagnostic and functional testing.
