Distribution veteran Steve Carr has left Premier Farnell to join TT as VP of Sales and Marketing for the company’s IoT Solutions business unit (formerly Stadium Group).

It is a new position that has been created to spearhead business opportunities and to drive future growth for TT in the global Internet of Things (IoT) market, which is forecast to reach $745bn in 2019 and surpass the $1trn mark by 2022, according to market intelligence firm IDC.

Carr’s distribution stints include most recently, Premier Farnell where he was Global Head of Marketing focused on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and neural networks for IoT, and a member of the IoT Council at Farnell.

He was also VP of the Technology Product Group, responsible for the design and manufacturing organisation, and for marketing new technologies across multiple geographies including in China and North America, with a strong orientation towards IoT. He also worked with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and BBC micro:bit to launch these highly popular single board computers, and established a programme to build early stage design development kits for industrial IoT solutions.

Previous to Premier Farnell Carr spent five years as VP Engineering and Vertical Markets EMEA at Future Electronics, and a 10-year period as Managing Director at Acal Technology.

For the past two years, he has also been a partner and mentor at Startupbootcamp IoT, an acceleration programme designed to make the journey of building a connected hardware start-up clearer, shorter, and more successful for entrepreneurs.

Charlie Peppiatt, EVP IoT Solutions, commented: “Steve’s deep experience and understanding of the IoT sector, both at a commercial and technology level, plus his strong leadership skills, will be invaluable in driving and achieving our strategic goals for growth, with the aim of positioning TT as a prevalent player in IoT.
