Digi-Key is ramping up a second fulfilment facility it opened in Fargo, North Dakota a year ago. It is now has 100 employees and is shipping about 10 per cent of Digi-Key’s global orders.
It is the first facility outside Digi-Key’s Thief River Falls headquarters in its 40 year history.
It is keeping about 50,000 parts in Fargo, all popular choices with customers. In contrast it holds one million parts at its Thief River Falls.
According to the Grand Forks Herald expansion is continuing apace.
It reports that the company also has moved nearly half of its receiving operations to the north Fargo satellite. It finished a 40,000-square-foot addition in April to connect two buildings and will acquire an additional 100,000 square feet by November, which will bring its total space to 340,000 square feet.
“It’s going to be a big part of Digi-Key’s future,” Cody Huschle, Director of Operations at Fargo told the Grand Forks Herald.

The move has been made against a background of fierce competition for staff among the companies based in the thinly populated area of northern Minnesota.
Digi-Key is already bussing in employees from towns as much as 40 miles away from Thief River Falls to fill vacancies. These personnel work a 12-hour four days a week stint.
