Mouser Electronics sponsorship of the Brazilian IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan could surely not been more fulfilling and gratifying than his victory in the prestigious Indianapolis 500. Kanaan took the chequered flag at his eleventh attempt having endured more than his fair share of hard luck and near misses.
The victory is a dream come true for Kanaan, who has said “I wanted it all my life.” On the last lap under the yellow caution flag, fans in the stands were yelling, “TK, TK, TK!” “I have to say, the last lap was the longest lap of my life,” Kanaan said.
The 12th trip to Indy was the charm for Kanaan also perhaps because of a very special charm he carried with him throughout the race. The Brazilian driver received a package four days before the race containing a good luck charm he had given to a young girl nine years ago just before she was about to undergo brain surgery. The woman, now 24 years old and healthy, returned the charm to Kanaan along with a note that read: “Here’s your good luck charm back. Now you take it and win the Indianapolis 500.”
“Tony definitely embodies the kindred spirit of the design engineer, always trying and never giving up,” said Glenn Smith, Mouser’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “As we look back over the past two years, we are so proud to be one of Tony’s sponsors. His focus and determination have helped him achieve his lifelong dream. We are happy to be a supporter of that.”
Mouser is an official partner of the 2013 KV Racing Technology #11 IZOD IndyCar Series team.

Mouser first sponsored IndyCar in 2011 as an innovative way to communicate its performance-driven business model and promote the newest technologies and how they affect the high-tech world of IndyCar racing. Since every advanced, sophisticated component that goes into an IndyCar is all about precision and gaining a performance edge out on the track, IndyCar provides the perfect vehicle to build top-of-mind awareness for Mouser and its industry-leading manufacturers.

The 2013 IZOD IndyCar series features 19 races. The series travels to Mouser’s backyard on June 8 for the Firestone 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Kanaan finished 5th last year at TMS. To keep up to speed (so to speak) with Kanaan’s 2013 season, visit http://www.mouser.com/indy/.

Racing fans and design engineers can also enter a competition to win the Mouser 500 Engineering Challenge Contest. For more information, visit http://www.mouser.com/500challenge_2013/.
