The German component distribution industry has bounced back from a torrid year and reported sales growth of 20% in the first quarter of 2013 compared to Q4 2012. Sales of 730m Euro represented a 4% decrease on the same quarter last year. The FBDI industry association says this represents a stablisation of the industry.
It reports a book to bill ratio of 0.97 in the first quarter which while still slightly in the negative offers optimism for the rest of the year.
Orders grew 3% in Q1 thus year compared to the same quarter last year and by 10% over Q4 last year.
The specific component categories show fluctuating fortunes. The Semiconductor share of the total was 68%, a decline of 2% on last year. Passive components at 15% share were 1% up on last year and electromechanical components share grew 1% to 11% of the total. Displays represented 3% of total sales through distribution, and power supplies represented a 2% share.
Wolfgang Ziehfuss, managing director of FBDI commented: “The first quarter has brought us a little closer to the expectations of 2013. A slight growth is now realistic.”
