Three and a half years go Lindsley Ruth was headhunted from Future Electronics and appointed Chief Executive Officer at Electrocomponents. His task – turn the floundering RS Components business around and build a platform for success. So far, so good. Revenues are up, profits are up, the share price is up and there is a spring in the RS Components step.

Distribution Agreements

RS Components (RS) has signed a partnership agreement with Zerynth, a start-up company that develops ‘middleware’ software for Internet of Things (IoT) projects and applications. The key essence of the agreement is that the Zerynth IoT development environment will be available via a unique portal on the DesignSpark engineering community, enabling easy access for customers to download the tools.

RS Components

Already an ardent supporter of engineering education, RS Components (RS)took its 35-tonne innovation truck, Titan II, to King’s Cross in London in support of the government’s Year of Engineering (YoE) campaign. Over 500 students, as well as local businesses, engaged in activities in and around the truck, helping to celebrate the world of engineering and inspire young people to enter the profession.

A beta version of a significant new platform – DesignSpark Marketplace – has been unveiled by RS Components. It enables makers, pro-makers, start-ups and small businesses to promote and sell their own inventions and product creations to a wide audience of fellow makers and engineers, including more than 650,000 members of the RS DesignSpark engineering and maker community.

A new app for iOS, Android and Windows devices has been released by RS Components. The DesignSpark Toolbox app is available to download free-of-charge, and provides a single point of access to common electronic reference materials, calculation and conversion tools in an easy-to-use format for electronics design engineers, makers and students.

RS was named as Phoenix Contact’s UK distribution partner of the year for 2017 based on its performance in the area of connectivity devices, fulfilling extensive marketing activities around new product introductions, leading to outstanding sales growth.

Distributors

RS Components (RS) has signed a franchise agreement with Abracon, a global manufacturer of frequency control, timing, synchronisation, RF, connectivity and power components. The deal covers the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions and it is an extension of the existing relationship in the US between Abracon and Allied Electronics & Automation, the trading brand of Electrocomponents in the Americas.
