Avnet Memec, Europe’s leading technical distributor, is this month celebrating five years of successful trading. Avnet Memec was formed in 2005 and has grown continuously to become the €300m company it is today.
According to Steve Haynes, president at Avnet Memec, the company fills a gap in the pan-European distribution space, “There have been several good specialist broadline distributors operating throughout Europe for many years. However, none of them are supporting niche specialised applications.” He continued, “Avnet Memec was formed to bring creative, innovative technical design support to its customers through superb customer service. Our success over the last five years is evidence that our vision is working.”
From the outset Avnet Memec was committed to providing its customers with best-in-class technical support with a one to one ratio on the field application and field sales engineering team. This commitment has resulted in sales growing by more than 17% over five years across Europe as a whole, even through the recent recession.
The UK team has utilised its industry experience and technical expertise to triple sales, double market share and dramatically increase its customer base in the last 3 years alone. The considerable market knowledge of its business development team has also led them to successfully implement a vertical market strategy that is being rolled out throughout Europe. The strategy, launched early 2010, has already resulted in significant new sales into the medical, industrial and mil/aero markets.
