April provided a perky performance from UK and Ireland distributors as figures released by the AFDEC Group within the Electronic Components Supply Network (ecsn) showed that Total Monthly Billings (net sales invoiced less credits) were an encouraging 2% increase over the same month in 2014. There was also an increase in the Book-to-Bill ratio, led by the semiconductor and electro-mechanical market sectors. The organisation reported a decline of (14%) when compared to the previous month however.
ECSN chairman Adam Fletcher said that the 2% growth figure is “reassuringly” in line with his organisation’s forecast for “improving, low single digit growth over the next three quarters”. However, the month on month decline shows how the UK / Ireland electronic components markets are being affected by the decline in economic growth across the EU and a continued downturn in manufacturing output in China.
Overall Bookings increased by 2% in April ’15 compared to the same period 2014 but declined by 12% when compared to the previous month.
Welcoming the Bok-to-Bill gain as “positive news”, Fletcher added, “The polynomial trend continues to indicate that the B2B will remain positive into 2H ‘15”.
Ending on a positive note Fletcher added that “Year on year billings figures continue to show slow, steady, growth”.
