New DCXO family from SiTime reduces the number of components required

MSC now offers highly flexible, high performance Digitally Controlled Oscillators (DCXOs) from SiTime. These devices are ideally suited for use in telecommunications, wireless, networking and other applications where a high level of frequency accuracy is important.

Whereas conventional VCXOs require an external voltage to control the frequency, SiTime’s DCXO family of products enable users to digitally control the output frequency. Therefore, a pull range from ±25 ppm to ±1600 ppm (parts per million) is achieved and the frequency resolution is 1 ppb (parts per billion).

The DCXOs provide superior pull range linearity of less than 0.01% which is 1000 times better than conventional quartz crystal VCXOs. Furthermore, unlike traditional VCXOs designs, external D/A converters are not required with the use of DCXOs, resulting in a reduction of the number of components needed for the circuitry.

SiTime’s MEMS-based DCXOs provide developers with completely linear and low-noise solutions, which not only feature high accuracy and flexibility but also robustness and an unprecedented reliability.

The DCXOs come in three industry standard package sizes (3225, 5032 and 7050) and can optionally be operated with a supply voltage of 1.8 V, 2.5 V to 3.3 V. The first version, the SiT3907, is provided with LVCMOS outputs. Versions with differential outputs should come onto the market in the course of the next year.

Mixed-signal oscilloscope reaches new price point

Tektronix has launched a lower-cost version of the highly successful MSO series of mixed-signal oscilloscopes combining two or four analogue channels with 16 digital channels

tti-tektronix-mso2000-series-oscilloscopeTektronix has launched a lower-cost version of the highly successful MSO series of mixed-signal oscilloscopes combining two or four analogue channels with 16 digital channels.

The MSO2000 Series are digital phosphor oscilloscopes with bandwidths of 100 MHz or 200 MHz and two or four channels, and are significantly cheaper than the other MSO instruments in the Tektronix range.

Despite their low cost, instruments in the MSO2000 Series incorporate 1M points of usable record length on all channels, serial trigger and decode analysis options, and a variable low-pass filter that also allows the user to see signal details to the oscilloscope’s full bandwidth.

The WaveInspector navigation and search facility enables details to be located and zoomed using intuitive smart controls. The display uses a widescreen colour TFT which allows more information to be seen than a standard 4:3 display.

Digitally oriented features include bus display, bus decoding and events table. Serial triggering is provided for popular serial interfaces including I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, CAN and LIN. Triggering can be done on packet content such as start of packet, specific addresses, specific data content or other unique identifiers.

TTi, as a Platinum distributor for Tektronix, holds all of the MSO2000 models in stock along with all options and accessories.
