Powerful 7 inch Slim Rugged Multi-touch Tablet PC

The RTC-700 from AAEON is a new powerful slim rugged tablet computer ideal for applications in harsh/severe environments. This tablet computer is sealed to IP-65 specifications, and is built from the ground up to withstand water, dust, vibration and drops.

The RTC-700 features a sunlight readable 7″ WSVGA (1024 x 600) or a 7″ WXVGA (1280 x 800) display with a projected capacitive multi-touch, 400 nits brightness and a 178° wide viewing angle. Li-Polymer high capacity batteries can provide up to 6 hrs. working time.

The RTC-700R is based on the NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2, 1.0 GHz dual core processor with 1GB DDR2 system memory and 16GB eMMC flash memory and supports Android™ v3.2. The RTC-700T supports Windows™ 7 and is based on the Intel® Atom™ Z670 processor with 1GB DDR2 and 16GB mSATA SSD.

The units offer flexible I/Os such as mini USB, mini HDMI, a micro SD card slot, a SIM card slot, RS-232 (optional), and a DC-IN jack. A carry bag and vehicle DC/DC adapter are optional available accessories.

For communication the RTC-700 uses a wireless LAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n plus Bluetooth 2.1 EDR and can be upgraded with a 3G modem module. Furthermore both versions feature a 5M pixel camera, a built-in speaker and microphone, GPS navigation, G-sensor, light sensor and a 3-axis digital gyroscope (R-version only). The RTC-700 tablet PC is compliant to CE/FCC class B/UL EMC/safety standards and can operate between -20°C to +60°C.

element14 partners with Raspberry Pi co-founder Eben Upton and modding guru Ben Heck, to highlight the impact of technology on education, makers and innovation at Maker Faire® Bay Area on May 19 – 20 at the San Mateo County Event Center. element14 announce over 100,000 confirmed orders for Raspberry Pi

element14 has announced that it has now received over 100,000 confirmed orders for the Raspberry Pi computer since the product was launched at the end of February.

With delivery of the credit card sized computer now underway element14 wants to reassure customers that everything that can be done is being done to get their Raspberry Pi’s to them as soon as possible.

Mike Buffham, Director of Product and EDE at element14 said: “We have over 100,000 confirmed orders for the Raspberry Pi and can confirm that all of those who ordered before 18th April will definitely receive their Raspberry Pi before the end of June 2012. We appreciate customers are desperate to get their hands on a Raspberry Pi and want to reassure them that we are working on this as quickly as we can. As soon as we have the precise information our customers want about their individual delivery date they will be the first to know.”

So far, following the first delivery of Raspberry Pi computers to element14’s global distribution centres late last week, customers in 30 countries have received their Pi, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam have taken delivery of the “must have” gadget of the year.

The next shipment of Raspberry Pi’s are expected to arrive early in the first week of May and will be sent out to customers worldwide as quickly as possible using element14’s well established global supply chain network. These will be distributed strictly in the order that commitments were received within each region.

Any customer ordering a Raspberry Pi after 18th April can expect a delivery date of July 2012 onwards.

Additionally, element14 have announced they may revert to collecting registrations of interest from time to time on new orders whilst they await updated delivery information from their manufacturers. This is to avoid further confusion and ensure new customers placing orders are given accurate delivery information.

Since the global distribution deal was announced on Feb 29 the element14 Community has been supporting conversations, debate and sharing of knowledge and information from the flood of enthusiastic developers and first-time programmers keen to get the most from their Raspberry Pi. element14 receive first batch of Raspberry Pi’s and founder gives masterclass to local students

element14 has today announced the arrival of its first batch of Raspberry Pi computers. To celebrate this, Raspberry Pi’s founder Eben Upton held a one-to-one masterclass with a group of teenage students to showcase how the ground-breaking credit card sized computer works.

The company have today started sending out the computers to the first UK-based customers with more being sent out early next week.

Eben Upton, co-founder of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, commented: “This is a really exciting time as we get ready to start to send out the first batch of Raspberry Pi’s. I am really pleased today to have taken these youngsters through how simple it is to use the Raspberry Pi and I can only hope that they will get hooked on it and become the programmers of tomorrow. With all the advice and support available on the element14 Community they should not be shy of trying new things, making mistakes and looking for help.”

Chris Haworth, President of CPC, a Premier Farnell company, which provided the equipment for today’s masterclass said: “The amount of interest and buzz the Raspberry Pi has generated all over the world is immense. We are delighted that the first batch has arrived today and delivered to us by none other than Eben himself. The most important thing now is to get the Raspberry Pi out to customers and we have started doing that this afternoon.”

There has been huge anticipation of the arrival of the Raspberry Pi and the youngsters will have a chance to see how simple it is to program with the mini computer. The possibilities of what can be done on a Raspberry Pi are only limited by the imagination. Eben talked through the simple set up procedure, running the boot up script, use the script editor and begin to create applications using the Python scripts that are pre-supplied with the software download.
All the youngsters who attended today’s exclusive event were given a Raspberry Pi by Eben Upton and CPC provided a pack of a screen, cables and connections needed to get up and running as soon as they get home.

Raspberry Pi deliveries start from RS Components and Allied Electronics

RS Components and Allied Electronics are commencing shipments of Raspberry Pi, the credit-card sized computer board designed to seed a new generation of programmers. The shipments are being sent to the first group of customers from around the world, all of whom registered for a Raspberry Pi from RS and Allied.

Invitations to place an order on the new RS and Allied Raspberry Pi online store have been sent out to customers on a first-come, first-served basis in line with registrations of interest placed on the companies’ websites and to match the number of boards available from RS and Allied in the first production run. This process will be repeated once the next batch of boards becomes available. RS and Allied have implemented this procedure to ensure that all orders for Raspberry Pi are fulfilled with a confirmed delivery date. Due to the exceedingly high demand for the product, and limited quantities available from the manufacturer at this time, orders are currently restricted to one board per customer.

When ordering Raspberry Pi from the dedicated online store, customers can click through to the associated parts and accessories required for activation of the board. These include USB A-B cables, HDMI cables, power supplies and SD memory cards from a range of leading suppliers, all available to purchase from stock. By ordering these cables and other accessories from RS and Allied at the same time as the Raspberry Pi board, customers can make a saving on the delivery cost, as the same total shipping charge is applicable.

“There has been a huge wave of anticipation and extraordinary levels of demand for Raspberry Pi since it was launched, so we are delighted to be delivering the first boards to initial customers,” said Glenn Jarrett, Head of Electronics Marketing at RS Components. “We are working very closely with the manufacturer to bring subsequent batches of boards into stock so that we can fulfil every customer order for Raspberry Pi as quickly as possible.”

For developers, there is the free schematic capture and PCB layout tool from RS and Allied, DesignSpark PCB. It has already won awards from across the globe, and the company is seeing more developers adopt it with some already creating prototyping boards to use with Raspberry Pi.

The Raspberry Pi boards from RS and Allied are priced at £21.60 plus a shipping charge of £4.95 to any destination worldwide, plus VAT and import duty as applicable.

The Raspberry Pi board was created by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a charity based in Cambridge, UK, and was conceived to encourage and enable children to learn and apply computer programming.

Anglia Embedded joins European Sales Network for Advantech, a world leader in embedded computing

Initially the Raspberry Pi will be sold in one uncased configuration – the Model B – which has two USB slots, 256MB of RAM, HDMI slot, SD memory card slot and an Ethernet port. This will be followed later in 2012 by the Model A which has 256MB RAM, one USB port. Raspberry Pi breaks new ground with a selling price of just $35 for the ‘Model B’, and $25 for the ‘Model A’.
