Lattice Semiconductor Corporation today announced the transfer of its Standard Military Drawing (SMD) product portfolio to Arrow Electronics Inc., effective immediately. Lattice’s SMD products include the GAL® family (GAL16V8, GAL20V8 and GAL22V10) of simple PLDs and the ispLSI®1000 family (ispLSI 1016, ispLSI 1024, ispLSI 1032 and ispLSI 1048) of complex PLDs. Lattice’s SMD products were formally discontinued by Lattice via its Product Change Notification (PCN) process in 2011. A copy of PCN 05A-10 can be found here. By transferring the SMD product family to Arrow Electronics, Lattice SMD customers now have a new supply channel that can support the ongoing demand for these popular devices.
Arrow Electronics has a strong history of providing support for discontinued SMD products, and supports a broad array of military-grade products in the Programmable Logic, Memory and Analog market segments. “This agreement and others like it make it possible for Arrow to fulfill our commitment to long-term support for our aerospace and defense customers. By acquiring finished goods, die-level products, and the necessary test equipment, Arrow Electronics will support delivery of these critical components for many years to come,” said Tyler Moore, Director of Supply Assurance for Arrow Electronics.
“This is great news for Lattice customers, who now have an ongoing source of supply for the SMD versions of the GAL and ispLSI 1000 device families,” said Steve Stark, Lattice’s Director of Business Group Operations. “Importantly, this new source of supply is Arrow Electronics, an industry leader in the support of discontinued products to the military marketplace.”

Digi-Key Corporation today announced the addition of Lattice’s MachXO2 Programmable Logic Devices.
Lattice Semiconductor’s MachXO2 family of infinitely reconfigurable Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs) offers designers of low density PLDs an unprecedented mix of low cost, low power and high system integration in a single device. Combining an optimized look-up table (LUT) architecture with 65 nm embedded Flash process technology, the MachXO2 family delivers an increase in logic density, an increase in embedded memory, and a reduction in static power compared to the prior generation, the MachXO PLD family.
The MachXO2 family offers system designers the benefits of increased system integration, improved system robustness and reduced static power consumption. In addition, the MachXO2 family includes hardened implementations of some of the most popular functions used in system applications (telecom infrastructure, computing, high end industrial, high end medical, etc.) and consumer applications (smart phones, GPS devices, mobile computing, digital cameras, etc.). Through the provision of these features, the MachXO2 family offers designers a “Do-it-All PLD” for system applications.

RS extends FPGA portfolio, adding 150 devices including new Cyclone and
Spartan families from Altera and Xilinx
RS Components is adding more than 150 products to its FPGA portfolio for mainstream industrial, scientific and medical applications, providing more options for system-on-chip designers seeking fast, convenient access to established, price-competitive device families and supporting development tools.
For RS, Paul Webster, Head of Product Management, Electronics said: “Today’s mid-range FPGAs and highly-featured CPLDs help designers meet aggressive cost and power targets, as well as speeding up time to market and increasing design agility. They are often chosen in preference to a microcontroller or ASIC-based design in projects where a variety of sensing, networking, signal processing, Gigabit-I/O and general-purpose capabilities are required”.
The broad range of devices now available from RS Components includes Altera’s APEX, Cyclone®, FLEX® and Stratix® architectures including APEX 20K, Cyclone II, Cyclone III and Stratix II families. Xilinx device families include CoolRunner™-II, Virtex®-4, Virtex-5 and multiple Spartan® families including Spartan 3E/3A/3AN and Spartan 3A DSP. A dramatically extended portfolio of devices from Lattice Semiconductor will also be announced shortly.
“The ever-increasing choice of competitively priced FPGAs targeting mainstream industrial applications is an extremely important trend, often overshadowed by news of leading-edge innovations,” continued Webster. “As the leading European distributor offering one-stop-shop catalogue facilities, we provide the easiest possible access to this technology, including convenient, rapid delivery free of restrictions such as minimum order quantities.”
Supporting the company’s strategy offering convenient access to low-cost, low-power custom-programmable design is a comprehensive range of development boards and kits. These enable designers to familiarise themselves with device features and design techniques and take advantage of application examples and reference designs that help accelerate project completion.
