Avnet Embedded, an Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT) company, is announcing the availability of a new generation of Cinterion GSM/GPRS terminals offering greatly enhanced functionality whilst retaining full backward compatibility with earlier models.
According to Avnet Embedded, the Cinterion Quad-Band MC55iT and the Dual Band MC52iT take the Cinterion MC55i platform to a new level. With an extended temperature range, the new terminals can be used in a wide range of M2M business fields such as metering, remote maintenance, traffic systems, transportation and logistics, and security. Mechanical and electrical compatibility with the existing TC35iT and MC35iT together with a compact migration guideline allow an easy and seamless migration into the next generation of M2M terminals.
MC55i Terminal packs a Quad-Band (850 / 900 / 1800/ 1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS baseband with TCP/IP connectivity based on GPRS Class 10 data transmission into a compact plug-and-play housing. It offers a range of common interfaces as well as an integrated SIM cardholder which make the new generation an all-in-one solution enabling voice, data, SMS and fax communication. The Dual-Band (900 / 1800 MHz) variant (MC52iT) offers similar functionality with GPRS Class 8 support for standard M2M applications.
Like all Cinterion products, MC52iT / MC55iT come with full type approval (FTA) and are certified according to automotive e-mark as well as by the largest carriers worldwide.

Anglia adds M2M comms capability with Cinterion
Anglia has signed a UK and Ireland distribution agreement with the world’s leading manufacturer of GSM and GPRS modules, Cinterion – formerly Siemens Wireless Modules. Under the deal, Anglia will provide sales, marketing and design support to promote Cinterion’s entire product range.
The agreement further extends Anglia’s wireless portfolio, enabling it to offer design-in solutions for a rapidly expanding variety of machine-to-machine (M2M) applications making use of the mobile phone network. Applications include remote utility metering, fire and security system monitoring, e-tolls, secure transactions, POS terminals, asset tracking systems and mobile computers.
Arthur Woode, Cinterion’s UK and Ireland country manager said, “We were looking for an additional partner with proven expertise in wireless technology, and a solid understanding of the design-in process. Anglia was therefore a natural choice to help us grow our business in the UK and Ireland.”
Commenting on the deal, John Bowman, Anglia’s Divisional Marketing Manager, highlighted Cinterion’s GSM/GPRS strength, “Cinterion leads the market with a wide range of cutting-edge wireless M2M solutions. The inclusion of this technology perfectly complements our existing product offering, firmly establishing us as a truly significant player in the wireless space”.
