element14 offers latest releases of iCoupler® digital isolators from Analog Devices

With more than 500 million channels deployed, ADI’s iCoupler® technology provides a proven digital isolation option to traditional optocoupler based solutions

fARNELL_adielement14, formerly Farnell, the industry’s first fusion of commerce and community supporting millions of engineers and purchasing professionals worldwide, has announced the availability of the latest digital isolators that feature the award winning iCoupler® technology from Analog Devices to its 120,000-strong electronic design engineer relevant inventory of products stocked within the Asia Pacific.

iCoupler® digital isolators from Analog Devices combine proprietary chip-scale micro-transformer technology, analog and mixed-signal circuits, as well as high-speed CMOS, creating devices with significant system level integration and functional advantages over other digital isolators and optocouplers. Offering isolation and innovation in one package, the iCoupler digital isolators portfolio is the broadest in the industry and includes standard digital isolators, digital isolators with isoPower, digital isolators with integrated PWM controller and transformer driver, USB 2.0 compatible isolators, isolated gatedrivers, isolated I²C digital isolators, isolated RS-485 transceivers, isolated RS-232 devices, isolated ∑-∆ ADCs.

The ADuM347x Family are quad-channel, digital isolators with an integrated PWM controller and transformer driver for an isolated dc-to-dc converter. The dc-to-dc converter provides up to 2 W of regulated, isolated power at 3.3 V to 24 V from a 5.0 V input supply or from a 3.3 V supply which eliminates the need for a separate, isolated dc-to-dc converter. The iCoupler chip-scale transformer technology is used to isolate the logic signals, and the integrated transformer driver with isolated secondary side control provides higher efficiency for the isolated dc-to-dc converter. The result is a small form factor, total isolation solution.

The recently released ADuM3160 and ADuM4160 are the industry’s first single package USB isolation solutions. The USB 2.0 compliant ADuM3160 and ADuM4160 are fully isolated to 1.5-Mbps and 12-Mbps and have been developed to lower system cost, reduce design size, and to lessen design time all while meeting the most demanding medical and industrial standards. The ADuM4160 offers 5kV rms isolation that is ideal for medical applications as well as applications in harsh industrial environments. The ADuM3160 offers 2.5kV rms isolation and electrically isolates instrumentation and controls by protecting equipment from damaging surges or spikes and by eliminating down time when using non-isolated ports.

Professionals in the medical, industrial and control equipment industries will be able to enjoy an unrivalled purchase and support experience through element14’s unique offering. Customers can purchase with ease and flexibility via multiple channels with no minimum quantity or value, and next day delivery. 24/7 customer service telephone support and 24/5 online technical support in local languages are also available. In addition, customers can also visit and engage with the element14 online community to research, consult industry experts, and collaborate with design engineers and electronics enthusiasts around the globe.

Digi-Key Announces Stock on Analog Devices’ New Digital Isolator with Integrated Transformer Driver and PWM Controller

Electronic components distributor Digi-Key Corporation, recognized by design engineers as having the industry’s broadest selection of electronic components available for immediate shipment, today announced it is now stocking the industry’s first digital isolator with an integrated transformer driver and PWM (pulse-width modulation) controller in a single package from Analog Devices, Inc., a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal process applications.

The ADuM347x four-channel digital isolators include the ADuM3470, ADuM3471, ADuM3472, ADuM3473, and ADuM3474 products. Digi-Key is also stocking the EVAL-ADuM3471EBZ evaluation board. These products are now available for purchase on Digi-Key’s global websites and will be featured in future print and online catalogs.

The integration of the digital isolator, transformer driver, and PWM controller into a small 20-lead SSOP enables the new four-channel digital isolator to reduce board space by up to 30 percent and achieve cost reductions of 10 percent while simplifying the development of systems requiring isolated data and power. The product enables designers to implement an isolated DC-to-DC converter that provides up to 2 watts of regulated, isolated power at 3.3V to 30V from a 5.0V input supply or 3.3V supply. These products are ideal for applications that require isolated data and power, including data acquisition, industrial process control using Fieldbus, and building control.

These new devices expand ADI’s iCoupler digital isolation portfolio, which provides the industry’s most extensive range of isolation technology. Along with the other products in the portfolio, the ADuM347x isolators enable designers to implement isolation in their designs without the cost, size, power, performance, and reliability constraints found with traditional isolation products such as optocouplers.
