Digi-Key Corporation hires more employees to maintain customer service levels
Digi-Key Corporation has hired more than 60 people since Jan. 1, 2010, bringing the company’s total number of employees to 2,059 as of Feb. 21, 2010. This hiring increase is in response to increased sales of electronic components following last year’s economic downturn.
“Our projections for 2010 have begun to materialize. We are seeing a significant increase in demand for electronic components and, thus, the number of employees required to meet that demand,” said Mark Larson, Digi-Key’s president and COO. “January was a record sales month for Digi-Key. We have shipped more than 15,000 orders on several dates since the beginning of 2010, and we are on pace to continue this upward trend in sales, number of orders shipped, and number of employees throughout this year.”
The increase in demand for electronic components has caused Digi-Key to ramp up its efforts to quickly process and ship orders. Digi-Key has the capability to process an order from entry to shipping in as little as 15 minutes. More than 99 percent of Digi-Key orders are shipped in less than 24-hours from the time the orders are received.
“We are continually looking for new talent to enhance and improve Digi-Key’s internal processes,” said Rick Trontvet, Digi-Key’s vice president of human resources. “Currently, we are adding staff in many areas to help maintain pace with rapidly rising sales. We expect hiring to continue at this elevated rate into the fourth quarter of this year.”
Since 2002, Digi-Key has created more than 860 jobs. The average age of a current Digi-Key employee is 41 years with an average length of employment at Digi-Key of at least seven years. Approximately 58 percent of Digi-Key’s employees reside in Thief River Falls, Minn. while the remaining 42 percent live in surrounding communities.

Skyworks’ SMP1302 PIN diode is designed for high power, high volume switch and attenuator applications from 10MHz to beyond 6GHz. They are encased in a surface mountable plastic QFN package and have a low capacitance of 0.3 picofarad (pF). The SMP1345 series of PIN diodes, available in the tiny 0402 package, is designed for Low-Noise Block (LNB), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and switch applications from 10MHZ to 6GHz. The SMP1321 and SMP1340 series have very low capacitance and series resistance for fast switching, high isolation applications. The Pi configuration SMP1307-027LF is ideally suited for CATV and Infrastructure low-distortion attenuator applications.
Skyworks’ Schottky diodes are low-cost, surface mountable, plastic packaged, and are designed for RF and microwave mixers and detectors. These devices may be used at frequencies up to 10GHz and are available in SC-70, SC-79, SOD-323, SOT-23, and LGA packages. Wiring configurations include singles, common cathode, series pairs, unconnected pairs, and dual series pairs.
Skyworks’ Varactor diodes are designed for use in Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) with a low tuning voltage operation. This family of Varactor diodes includes the SMV1234, SMV1247, SMV1249 and SMV1255 series of silicon hyper-abrupt junction diodes. The SMV1413 series is ideal for use in VCOs that call for tight capacitance tolerances.

High-speed modular mezzanine connectors enhance design flexibility for parallel board assembly

Providing network and telecommunications design engineers an advanced modular connection system that delivers high-speed performances with a more flexible and reliable method of assembly, the IT3 Series connector system represents advancement over two-piece mezzanine connector designs by providing two board-mounted receptacles of the same low profile and a variable height interposer to accommodate different board spacing requirements.
Hirose’s IT3 Mezzanine Connector system features a three-piece modular design consisting of two low profile receptacles mounted to each parallel PC board with BGA solder balls mounted in a staggering array of 1.5mm by 1.75mm pitch. The floating interposer module connects the two mounted receptacles and reduces the possibility of mechanical damage to the BGA joints. Compatible with industry standard footprints, the IT3 Series connector system is currently available in 100-, 200-, and 300-position modules with interposers for board stack heights from 15mm to 40mm.
The IT3 Series connectors are rated at 50 ohm single ended impedance and 100 ohm differential impedance.
