Arrow Electronics has sealed an new EMEA agreement with Electric Imp, a global Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider for secure connectivity and application enablement.

Electric Imp’s platform-as-a-service includes full-life cycle secure connectivity, interoperability and managed operations.

“We are excited that Arrow will market our advanced IoT Platform including secure connectivity for edge devices and advanced cloud services,” said Oliver Hutaff, CFO/COO of Electric Imp. “Arrow’s customers are increasingly looking for innovative ways to increase revenues, cut costs and expand their businesses by leveraging IoT.  With Electric Imp, Arrow’s customers can easily connect existing assets, manufacturing equipment and commercial products to the internet and cloud services. Customers will also be able to rapidly design and manufacture completely new, ‘green-field’ products in less time and at mass scale.”

It allows customers to move seamlessly from fast prototype to secure production and then to maintenance and update of field-deployed devices for years.

The platform assures edge devices with MuRata imp003 or imp005 modules connect seamlessly via WiFi and wired connections.

Electric Imp also simplifies development of device applications and processing and provides instant connectivity to the most popular enterprise applications through open source API libraries.

Research by Markets and Markets projects that Europe will comprise nearly 30% of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) market, which is expected to surpass $123.89bn.

Arrow is already tapping into this potential by helping customers accelerate their IoT deployments using its IoT Things eVolved solutions and services.

The Arrow eVolve offering is an end-to-end solution enabling businesses to deploy, manage, monitor, analyse and monetise secure connected devices throughout their entire lifecycle globally. Electric Imp will become part of Arrow’s “sensor-to-sunset” full IoT-product-lifecycle capabilities.

The combined solution draws on the two companies’ core strengths in sensors, wireless and embedded technology, system integration, enterprise computing, IoT edge device connectivity, managed security and application enablement for millions of connected devices.

For startups and makers, Arrow and Electric Imp’s combined IoT offerings include services specifically designed to help new innovators advance from idea to product and production quickly, cost-effectively and securely.

“Electric Imp’s IoT platform-service aligns perfectly with Arrow’s go-to-market strategy—allowing us to bring the most comprehensive IoT technology ecosystem in components and digital technologies to a diverse set of customers around the world,” said David Spragg, Vice President Semiconductor Marketing and Engineering at Arrow. “Together, we deliver an approach aimed at solving IoT business challenges while reducing technical and business risks that delay implementations or fail to capitalise on the highly-valuable data insights connected devices create.”
